Nestor Perkal
Nestor Perkal, born in Argentina in 1951, is a versatile artist who has been involved in a wide range of activities since the 1970s. A designer of furniture, objects, and lighting, interior designer, set designer, exhibition curator, and artistic director, he brings with him more than 45 years of expertise and research.
In 1978, having just graduated with a degree in architecture (DPLG) from the University of Buenos Aires, Nestor Perkal left his native land to settle in France. He flourished, first in Paris as an independent designer, where he opened several galleries—including one dedicated to new design, which was the first in France to showcase the Memphis group from Milan—while also producing his own furniture pieces. These were presented in 1985 at the Fondation Cartier's “Vivre en couleurs” exhibition.
His interest in craft techniques and expertise has been a common thread throughout his career. Nestor Perkal met goldsmiths who possessed traditional expertise and wanted to take a contemporary approach. This led to the creation of the Algorithme silverware collection, a seven-year adventure in which he invited other designers to participate, including Sylvain Dubuisson, Pierre Charpin, Christophe Pillet, George Sowden, and Nathalie Du Pasquier. The first collection was presented in 1987 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.
He then moved to Limoges, where he worked for the public institution as director of Craft, a research center for the arts of fire and earth.
An artistic community began to form around him. He collaborated and maintained loyal relationships with many creators, designers, artists, as well as manufacturers, sponsors, and collectors. Enriched by these experiences, which led him to develop his various practices, Nestor Perkal forged a coherent body of expertise in tune with his times.
Furthermore, he played and continues to play an essential role in the contemporary promotion and production of designers, architects, and artists.
Nestor Perkal has been collaborating with the MiniMasterpiece gallery since 2013.
